In hypercardioid mode, audio from the back and sides is rejected, and you get a tighter window in which to address the mic—we found that recordings in this mode were the most dramatically equalized, almost like an AM radio broadcaster. There's plenty of high-mid boosting when the mic is addressed up close. No matter what, there's no distortion, but this is a compressed (dynamically) sound.
Omnidirectional mode is ideal for really capturing an entire environment, but less so for dead-on vocal performance. In this mode, the Stream Mic sounds brighter and thinner, there's less bass response for deep or rich voices, and it's more about grabbing the entire room's sound.
